Paramedical Scar Revision
Revision, Mitigation & Removal
What is Scar Revision?
Scar revision is a specialized treatment designed to improve the appearance of scars resulting from various causes, including surgical procedures like appendectomies, hysterectomies, knee replacements, as well as cosmetic surgeries such as tummy tucks.
Unexpected illnesses, ailments, and accidents, may lead to sudden unplanned surgery that can leave behind a drastic scars.
Even after we heal, the remaining scars may be aesthetically displeasing to the person, or could remind them of the traumatic event that caused the scar.

What are the different types of scars?
-
Hypertrophic Scars:
Hypertrophic scars are raised, thickened scars, often reddish or pinkish. These remain within the boundaries of the original wound and are the result of an overproduction of collagen during the healing process.
-
Hypotrophic Scars:
Hypotrophic scars are sunken or depressed compared to the surrounding tissue. Sometimes they appear as shallow indentations. They are the result of insufficient collagen production during the healing process. They are usually white or pale compared to the surrounding skin.
-
Scar Tissue:
Scar tissue forms during the wound healing process, replacing damaged skin. It consists mainly of collagen fibers. Unlike healthy skin, scar tissue lacks normal structure—it’s less elastic, has fewer blood vessels, and lacks hair follicles or sweat glands. While scar tissue provides strength to the healed area, it does not function like regular skin. It can be “tough” to the touch and its inelasticity can often prevent full range of motion. It can also cause the person to feel an uncomfortable “pull” on the skin when it is stretched.

What can I do to reduce the appearance of a scar?
Although silicone-based gels or sheets can be used in the course of proper scar healing, they do not completely diminish a scar’s appearance.
Rethink Your Ink’s scar revision treatment aims to enhance both the aesthetic and functional aspects of scars. Unlike laser treatments that impact healthy tissue along with damaged tissue, our technique is more focused and precise. Treatments are performed exclusively on the scar, repairing only the damaged area without affecting the healthy tissue surrounding the scar. We focus on texture improvement, minimizing irregularities and uneven surfaces. Each scar is unique, and we craft a specific treatment approach for each scar we see using methods that help break down scar tissue, stimulate collagen production, and promote smoother skin.
At the end of my treatment will my scar match the color of my skin?
Scars often differ in color from the surrounding skin, therefore, after scar revision, we focus on color correction. This reduces discoloration by using high quality pigments to camouflage the area. Often the color of the scar can re-match the color of the skin when the tissue is completely healed.
Would this procedure work for me, and if so, how many sessions will it take?
Remember that scar revision outcomes vary based on factors like scar type, location, and individual healing responses. An in-person consultation and assessment is essential to determine the most suitable approach for your specific scar. If you have any specific questions about scar revision, feel free to ask!
